Microsoft Office:mac 2008
Assignment: Development of a unique, memorable, flexible, and meaningful identity that appeals to consumers and enterprise customers.
The Office:Mac 2008 package was a sharp departure from the previous packages of molded plastic. Landor and Microsoft partnered closely to explore significant structural change that considered environmental responsibility, ultimately settling on recycled paper. The final piece functions as a slipcase with a “book” inside. I worked with structural designers for a solution that introduced a curve in the top part of the book’s tray to allow users easy, intuitive access the DVD and Install Guide. We were able to achieve the delicate balance between supporting design and developing a wonderfully functional, affordable structure.
The design system that Microsoft chose was a transparent “ether” design and was extended through all aspects of the Office suite.
